Red Sox's Austin Adams: Fans three in exhibition
Adams (forearm) allowed one hit and struck out three over one scoreless inning during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays.
Adams closed out the 2024 campaign on the injured list due to right forearm tendinitis. He's officially received a clean bill of health and looked sharp Sunday as he continues to fight for a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Red Sox's Tanner Houck: Throwing indoors Monday
Houck threw indoors to make up for the innings he lost due to Monday's game against the Yankees getting postponed, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Houck will build up his workload in an unofficial setting Monday rather than try to make up the innings Tuesday. The 28-year-old righty logged a career-high 178.2 innings in 2024 and his 55.9 percent groundball rate was the fifth-best mark among qualified starters.

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: On track for start of season
Bello (shoulder) is expected to be ready for the start of the season, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
This is a fluid situation, as Bello has been throwing from 90 feet and will need to avoid any setbacks, but he's at least more likely to be ready than teammate Kutter Crawford (knee), per Abraham's report. Lucas Giolito (elbow) is also expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Unlikely for Opening Day
Crawford (knee) is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Per the same report, Brayan Bello (shoulder) and Lucas Giolito (elbow) are on track to be ready for the start of the season, which gives clarity for projecting Boston's rotation. Crawford is dealing with patellar tendon soreness and is unlikely to be able to build up in time. He seems likely to open the year on the 15-day injured list.

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Still out Monday
Wong (shoulder) is not in Monday's lineup against the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
It was reported Sunday that Wong had a sore shoulder and would likely return to action Monday, but he's absent from the lineup in favor of Omar Narvaez. Wong should be considered day-to-day.

Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Live BP session coming
Giolito (elbow) is expected to throw a live batting practice session Monday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Giolito is behind some other Boston starters but appears on track to be ready for Opening Day. The Red Sox typically have pitchers throw a couple of live BPs before getting into game action. Kutter Crawford (knee) is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season, per Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, so there's a spot for Giolito if he's ready.

Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Throws after planned downtime
Whitlock threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Friday following a week of downtime, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
As part of the rehab plan this offseason to bring Whitlock back from an internal brace procedure, the Red Sox introduced the concept of what was coined a "de-load" week. The right-hander would throw normal bullpens, then get a week off. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said this most recent de-load was the last one. If healthy, Whitlock should serve in a high-leverage bullpen role, including save opportunities.

Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Boffo debut Sunday
Bregman started at third base and went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI in Sunday's spring game against the Blue Jays.
Bregman's debut in a Boston uniform could not have gone any better. Batting second, he singled in his first at-bat, laced a two-run home run in the second inning, then had a double off the replica Green Monster at JetBlue park. The 30-year-old told Christopher Smith of Mass Live following the game that he worked on his swing mechanics during the offseason. After posting a career-low .768 OPS in 2024, Bregman studied video and noticed his hands were launching from further back over the last few seasons, so he worked to bring his hands inside the frame of his body.

Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: No runs in Grapefruit League debut
Crochet allowed no runs on three hits and one walk over 1.2 innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. He struck out four.
The left-hander was on a pitch count for his first spring game, with his departure in the midst of the second inning also being the result of a long wait between his first and second frames, per Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Crochet had a limited workload last year with the White Sox in his first season as a full-time starter, but he was still one of the top breakout players in MLB with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 209:33 K:BB across 146 innings. The 25-year-old isn't expected to face any workload restrictions in 2025 after being acquired by the Red Sox.

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Starts at short in spring opener
Hamilton started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's spring game against Tampa Bay.
Hamilton is caught up in a roster battle that also involves prospect Kristian Campbell and Vaughn Grissom, who started at second base Saturday. Trevor Story will be the starting shortstop, so Hamilton needs to make the team either as a starter at second base or more likely as a utility infielder. A case can be made for any of the players competing at second base, but it all goes up into flames if Alex Bregman becomes the club's starter at second base. Hamilton immediately showed his value, leading off the first inning with a walk and a steal before scoring on a Marcelo Mayer single.

Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Starts Grapefruit League opener
Grissom started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's spring game against the Rays.
While third base has been the hot topic at the start of Boston's spring training, it has great impact on second base. That's where Grissom, Kristian Campbell and David Hamilton are competing for the starting job. Campbell came off the bench Saturday, going 0-for-1 with a walk and made a diving snare off a line drive in the seventh inning. The second-base battle becomes moot if the Red Sox opt to leave Rafael Devers at third base and have Alex Bregman start at second base.

Red Sox's Chris Murphy: Throwing bullpens
Murphy (elbow) has thrown two bullpen sessions early this spring, Christopher Smith of MassLive reports.
Murphy has thrown a 10-pitch and a 15-pitch bullpen this spring as he works his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent last April. The southpaw missed all of last season due to the procedure after throwing 47.2 innings over 20 appearances out of the bullpen for the Red Sox as a rookie in 2023. Smith said Sunday that he's currently aiming to throw to live hitters April 10 and that there's a possibility he could be ready for game action during the first half of the campaign. He added that he's unsure what his role will be upon making it back to the big club, though Smith indicated a desire to be used in a multi-inning role, saying, "I feel like that's something that's going on in baseball now -- guys that can go two innings, guys that can go three innings. So have some utility."

Red Sox's Matt Duffy: Requires Tommy John surgery
Duffy was diagnosed with a full tear of the UCL in his right elbow and will undergo Tommy John surgery on March 5, Andrew Parker of Beyond the Monster reports.
A fourth-round pick in the 2023 Draft, Duffy spent the 2024 campaign at Single-A Salem and had a 2.83 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 100:27 K:BB across 98.2 innings during his first full season in the professional ranks. The 23-year-old be sidelined for all of 2025 while recovering from the procedure, with his rehab likely to extend into the 2026 campaign.

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Throwing from 90 feet
Bello (shoulder) has extended his throwing program to 90 feet and will undergo a strength test Sunday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
The right-hander was shut down briefly at the start of camp due to shoulder soreness, and he's still building up his arm strength before progressing to bullpen sessions. Bello's availability for the beginning of the regular season remains up in the air, and he may need to return to mound work soon to avoid a delayed start to the campaign.

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Nearing return from sore shoulder
Wong is dealing with shoulder soreness but is expected to be in the lineup for Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
It's unclear when exactly Wong sustained the injury, but it's not expected to keep him sidelined for long. The 28-year-old is poised to operate as Boston's No. 1 catcher this season after he posted a .280/.333/.425 slash line with 13 homers and eight steals in 126 games in 2024.

Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Managing calf soreness
Duran was scratched from Sunday's Grapefruit League lineup due to calf soreness, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
It's not believed to be serious concern, but the Red Sox are unsurprisingly exercising caution early in spring training. Duran could be back in the lineup after a few days off, and at this point there's no reason to suspect his availability for Opening Day will be affected by the injury.

Red Sox's Zach Penrod: Doesn't need surgery
Penrod isn't expected to need surgery on his injured left elbow, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Penrod has been dealing with a sore left elbow and got an MRI on Thursday. The results of the test were encouraging, as the lefty reliever doesn't appear to be slated to go under the knife. However, manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Penrod will be "out a while," which could impact his chances of making the Opening Day bullpen.

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Not yet throwing bullpens
Bello (shoulder) isn't yet throwing bullpens and isn't likely to be ready to pitch in games for at least a week, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Bello was recently shut down due to shoulder soreness, and though he's since been able to resume throwing, he hasn't yet tossed a bullpen session. Manager Alex Cora hasn't ruled Bello out from being ready for Opening Day, instead saying, "We'll see how it goes next week" in reference to the hurler's outlook moving forward. The Red Sox are already experiencing rotation issues, as Kutter Crawford's Opening Day status is in doubt due to a knee injury and Lucas Giolito began camp a few days behind other pitchers as he builds up following the internal brace procedure he underwent last March.

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Still hampered by illness
Abreu continues to battle an illness and hasn't been cleared to be on the field, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Abreu had some labs done Friday, which indicated that "there's still something there." It's unclear how long the outfielder will be held out, but with spring training having just kicked off, there's no reason at this point to think that Abreu is in danger of missing time at the start of the regular season. If healthy, Abreu is slated to start in right field against right-handed pitching for Boston this year.

Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Status for Opening Day uncertain
Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Crawford (knee) isn't certain to be ready to pitch by Opening Day, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Crawford has been experiencing patellar tendon soreness and is consequently behind schedule, though he did throw a bullpen session Friday. Despite that mound session, it's unclear if the right-hander will be fully ramped up by the time the regular season starts. Per Cotillo, Cora said of Crawford, "With Kutter, that's the one it looks like is going to be long. Opening Day, right now, is an 'if.' Let's see what happens." The Red Sox are already dealing with rotation issues, as Brayan Bello is also behind schedule due to a shoulder injury.
