Angels' Chase Silseth: Rusty in spring debut
Silseth (elbow) allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out one batter over 1.1 innings Sunday in a Cactus League contest against Cleveland.
Silseth ended last season on the minor-league injured list and underwent right elbow surgery in early August. He struggled in his first game action this spring, giving up a Steven Kwan solo homer on the first pitch he threw and allowing the following four batters to reach base (though one was due to an Angels error). Silseth was pulled after recording just one out, but under spring training rules, he was allowed to come back out for the next frame and looked much better, retiring the side in order. Still, it wasn't a promising beginning to the exhibition slate for the right-hander, who is competing for a rotation spot this spring. If Silseth is unable to win that battle, he could end up in the big-league bullpen or at Triple-A to begin the campaign.

Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Has so-so opening audition
Kochanowicz allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters over two innings in a Cactus League start against Seattle on Saturday.
Kochanowicz is vying for the Angels' fifth-starter opening, so each of his outings this spring could have an impact on his role to begin the regular season. The right-hander began his spring debut Saturday with a 1-2-3 frame but then struggled in the second inning, allowing a pair of singles and a walk to yield two runs before striking out the final two batters he faced. Reid Detmers, who may be Kochanowicz's top competition for a rotation spot, is slated to pitch for the Angels against Cleveland on Sunday.

Angels' Jose Soriano: Lined up for spring debut
Soriano (arm) is scheduled to start Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Padres.
Soriano ended last season on the injured list with arm issues, which prompted an MRI on his elbow and shoulder in September. The testing came back clean, and Soriano's inclusion in the spring rotation suggests he's back to full strength. If he makes it through camp unscathed, Soriano will likely be part of the Angels' starting rotation to begin the 2025 regular season after he put up a 3.42 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 113 innings last year.

Angels' Jo Adell: Slated to play in spring opener
Adell (oblique) is expected to play in the Angels' Cactus League opener Saturday versus the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Adell finished the 2024 season on the injured list after suffering a left oblique strain in early September, but he made a full recovery from the injury over the offseason and isn't operating with any restrictions this spring. The 25-year-old struck out in 28 percent of his 450 plate appearances with the Angels in 2024 and batted just .207, but he displayed the power-speed combination (20 home runs, 15 steals) that had made him an enticing fantasy prospect during his time in the minors. Batting average will continue to remain an issue moving forward unless he reduces his strikeout rate, but the toolsy 26-year-old should have the inside track for an everyday role in the outfield heading into Opening Day. After playing primarily in right field last season, Adell is expected to see most of his reps in center field in 2025 while the Angels look to move the oft-injured Mike Trout to a corner spot in an effort to preserve his health.

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Playing in spring opener
Schanuel (lower leg) is expected to be included in the Angels lineup for Saturday's Cactus League opener versus the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Schanuel missed the final four games of the 2024 season due to a bruised right lower leg, but the injury isn't believed to be anything that delayed his offseason workout program. The 23-year-old is projected to serve as the Angels' primary first baseman in 2025, but his lack of raw power renders him a low-end fantasy option at the position.

Angels' Mike Trout: Spring debut coming Monday
Trout (knee) is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut Monday versus the Giants, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Angels manager Ron Washington didn't reveal whether Trout would make his first start of the spring at designated hitter or if he'll be used in right field, the position that he's expected to play on a regular basis in 2025 after he had exclusively played in center field over the past decade. The Angels' decision to shift Trout to a corner spot is borne out of an effort to preserve his health, after he played 82 games or fewer in three of the past four seasons. Trout was limited to a career-low 29 games in 2024 after he required a pair of surgeries to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, with the most recent procedure taking place Aug. 7. While the 33-year-old now appears to be fully healthy, his poor medical record over the past few seasons means that fantasy managers will have to be willing to accept a high level of risk in investing in the three-time American League MVP. Additionally, Trout's move to the corner outfield could hint that he'll be less aggressive on the basepaths to guard against a potential injury.

Angels' Yusei Kikuchi: Named Opening Day starter
Angels manager Ron Washington named Kikuchi the team's Opening Day starter for their March 27 matchup against the White Sox, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
The skipper referred to the decision as "obvious" after Kikuchi was handed a three-year, $63 million contract over the offseason. With the lowly White Sox on the docket for the opener, Kikuchi will have a great chance to make a positive first impression with his new club.

Angels' Luis Rengifo: No limitations in spring training
Rengifo (wrist) said Tuesday that he began his normal offseason training in late December and is entering spring training without limitations, Jack Janes of TheSportingTribune.com reports.
Rengifo underwent right wrist surgery last August but appears to be 100 percent recovered at the beginning of camp. The switch hitter should be an everyday player for the Angels in 2025, although it might not necessarily be at one position. Rengifo saw most of his action in 2024 at second and third base, but he's also expected to get a look in the outfield this spring. Manager Ron Washington said he prefers Rengifo at third base over second base, but that he will see time again at both spots.

Angels' Kelvin Caceres: Remains in organization
The Angels outrighted Caceres (lat) to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.
Caceres had been removed from the 40-man roster in order to clear a spot for waiver claim Michael Petersen. The 25-year-old Caceres missed all of last season while recovering from lat surgery and it's not clear when he might be ready to pitch in games.

Angels' Tim Anderson: Will get some reps in outfield
Angels manager Ron Washington said Monday that Anderson will see some action in the outfield later this spring, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
Anderson's main focus will be competing for time at shortstop, where the Angels will likely need a fill-in for the injured Zach Neto (shoulder) for a bit. However, it appears the 31-year-old will also attempt to add to his versatility with some reps in the outfield. Anderson started two games at second base for the White Sox in 2023, which is the only time he's ever played a position other than shortstop.

Angels' Zach Neto: Begins throwing progression
Angels manager Ron Washington said that Neto (shoulder) began his throwing progression Monday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Washington added that Neto is not yet throwing with full effort, but the process of the shortstop ramping things up following last November's right shoulder surgery has begun. The expectation is that Neto will likely need a stint on the injured list to begin the season, but a clearer picture on his timetable should be available in the coming weeks.

Angels' Mickey Moniak: Will get look in center field
Moniak will be in the mix for starts in center field following the Angels' decision to shift Mike Trout (knee) to right field, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
With Trout injured, Moniak led the Angels with 91 starts in center field last season. Jo Adell -- who started four contests in center field in 2024 -- will be Moniak's chief competition for playing time. While Moniak would likely offer the Angels a steadier glove in center field, the Halos might lean toward Adell if they feel he still has some untapped offensive potential.

Angels' Jo Adell: Ticketed for center field
Adell is in line to play more in center field with the Angels' decision to move Mike Trout (knee) to right field, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Adell was a Gold Glove finalist in right field in 2024 but will be tasked with a new position in 2025, at least while Trout is healthy. The 25-year-old Adell has started only 15 games in center field at the major-league level but played there extensively in the minors. Mickey Moniak will also be in the mix for starts in center field and has more experience at the position than Adell.

Angels' Mike Trout: Moving to right field
Trout (knee) will move to right field this season in an effort to preserve his health, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
The decision was made during a meeting Trout had with Angels coaches Sunday. Trout has some limited experience playing the outfield corners, but he has been a center fielder exclusively since 2014. The 33-year-old has averaged just 66.5 games played per season over the last few years and played only 29 contests in 2024 due to knee problems. With Trout shifting over to right field, Jo Adell and Mickey Moniak will be in the mix to handle center field for the Angels.

Angels' Jorge Soler: Expected to bat near top of lineup
Angels manager Ron Washington said Friday that he expects Soler, Mike Trout and Taylor Ward to be the top three batters in the lineup, though not necessarily in that order, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Soler is no stranger to the top of the lineup, as he was primarily slotted in the first third of the order -- including 41 times he batted leadoff -- during his stints with San Francisco and Atlanta last season. Though he batted just .241 overall, the veteran slugger reached base at a .338 clip with the help of a career-best 12.1 percent walk rate. It's not yet clear the exact spot Soler will occupy in the Angels' lineup, and Washington added that it's possible one of the three players he mentioned could instead hit cleanup, but Soler could benefit in terms of run-scoring or run-producing opportunities with a place near Trout if the latter can remain healthy.

Angels' Mike Trout: Working on plan to stay healthy
Trout (knee) will meet with Angels manager Ron Washington and GM Perry Minasian to discuss ways to maintain the star outfielder's health, including by having him log more time in the corner outfield and at DH, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Trout has had trouble staying healthy in recent campaigns, as he's played in over 82 games just once since 2019. Last year, he tore the meniscus in his left knee in late April, and then suffered the same injury while attempting to rehab in the minors. The knee issues limited Trout to 29 games last year, though he was productive before getting hurt, slamming 10 home runs and stealing six bases. Trout's work on defense has been limited exclusively to center field since 2014, but he played some in both left field and right field earlier in his career, and it appears he'll log time in those corner outfield spots -- as well as at DH -- during the coming campaign as the Angels look to keep arguably their most important hitter healthy.

Angels' Robert Stephenson: Placed on 60-day IL
The Angels placed Stephenson (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Stephenson is still working his way back from the Tommy John procedure he underwent in May and isn't expected to make his return until July. Therefore, the Angels will temporarily strip him of his 40-man roster spot and give it to Kenley Jansen (shoulder), who officially signed his one-year deal with Los Angeles on Saturday.
