Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Lights lamp in loss
Slavin scored a goal on four shots in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Slavin's defense was on display for the world to see during his time with Team USA during the 4 Nations Face-Off. The 30-year-old didn't have a point during the tournament, but offense has never been his calling card. Even with that being the case, his NHL play has been pretty good lately -- he has four goals and 11 points over 20 outings since the start of January. For the season, he's at 21 points, 75 shots on net, 98 blocked shots and a plus-11 rating through 57 appearances. Fantasy managers don't need to buy the hype from talking heads; Slavin is an excellent on-ice player, but he's not a one-size-fits-all option in the virtual game. Roster him for blocks, and consider him if you're in a deeper format, but remember that a 30-point pace is typically the expectation.

Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Plays in 900th straight game
Burns picked up an assist in Saturday's 6-3 loss to Toronto.
Burns skated in his 900th straight game, dating back to Nov. 21, 2013. The native of Barrie, Ontario, is the sixth player in NHL history to accomplish the feat. Burns will be 40 in a couple of weeks (March 9), which means he would need to play well into 2026-27 to take Phil Kessel's ironman streak (1,064).

Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Can't overcome bad start
Kochetkov made 18 saves on 21 shots in a 6-3 loss to Toronto on Saturday. The fifth and sixth goals were empty-netters, and the second tally was counted as a own goal.
The score was 4-0 for Toronto by the 15:06 mark of the first period. His teammates scored three times in 2:41, starting at 12:25 of the third period, but the Maple Leafs held on for the victory. Kochetkov is 5-2-2 in his last nine starts while allowing 24 goals.

Hurricanes' Shayne Gostisbehere: First goal in 21 games
Gostisbehere had a goal and an assist in a 6-3 loss to Toronto on Saturday.
Gostisbehere finally got the Canes on the board at 12:25 of the third period. He skated into the slot from the blue line and one-timed a pass from Sebastian Aho, who found him from behind the net. Gostisbehere ended a 20-game goalless drought and has just four points (one goal, three assists) in his last 18 outings. While those are lengthy droughts, he had 27 points in his first 31 appearances this season. Gostisbehere is somewhere between those two polarities and could bring sneaky value for fantasy managers down the stretch.

Hurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov: Goal, assist in loss to Leafs
Svechnikov scored a goal and added an assist in a 6-3 loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Svechnikov one-timed a pass from Mikko Rantanen at the top of the right circle that deflected off a Leafs defender in the slot. Svechnikov has one goal and four assists during his three-game point streak. Carolina has struggled to find someone to have chemistry with Rantanen, and Svechnikov could be that guy. If so, Svechnikov's fantasy value could take a jump -- Rantanen would be the best player Svechnikov has played beside in the NHL.

Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Defending crease Saturday

Hurricanes' Tyson Jost: Might return Saturday
Jost (lower body) looking to play in Saturday's matchup with Toronto, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Jost has been sidelined since Dec. 31, a stretch of 19 games on the shelf due to his lower-body injury. If activated off injured reserve ahead of Saturday's clash, Jost will likely slot into a fourth-line role alongside Jack Roslovic and Eric Robinson.

Hurricanes' Riley Stillman: Elevated to NHL roster
Stillman was promoted from AHL Chicago on Tuesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Stillman has played in just one game for the Hurricanes this season in which he logged a meager 7:40 of ice time. Even with his elevation to the NHL roster, Stillman figures to continue serving as a depth option for Carolina and will likely keep warming a spot in the press box.

Hurricanes' Mikko Rantanen: Gets 4 Nations goal in Finnish win
Rantanen scored a goal for Finland in a 4-3 overtime win over Sweden on Saturday at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal.
Rantanen cashed in on a power play with 14 seconds left in the first period. He took a cross-ice pass from Patrik Laine and nearly flubbed the shot. The puck wobbled and fluttered but still went past Swedish starter Filip Gustavsson to give Finland a 2-1 lead. Rantanen came into the tourney on a three-game scoring drought and has just two points (one goal, one assist) in six games in his new NHL jersey.

Hurricanes' Alexander Nikishin: KHL deal expiring
Nikishin's contract with SKA St. Petersburg is expected to expire June 1, RG Media reports.
Nikishin told RG Media, "I have no idea what's going to happen even a month from now. Thinking that far ahead is just asking to be laughed at," so it's unclear if he will actually make the jump to the NHL next year. In the KHL this season, the 23-year-old blueliner has racked up 13 goals and 23 helpers in 49 games, production that would certainly bolster the Canes' blue line ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Hurricanes' Felix Unger Sorum: Starting to score
Unger Sorum has two goals and seven assists in his last 14 games at AHL Chicago,
Unger Sorum had a goal and an assist in Texas on Dec. 14, prior to leaving the team to play for Sweden at the U20 World Championships in Ottawa. The 19-year-old had a big tournament with a goal and nine assists in seven games. Unger Sorum, who was selected 62nd overall in 2023, had a goal and five points in his first 21 AHL contests, as he struggled offensively early on.

Hurricanes' Bradly Nadeau: Excelling in AHL
Nadeau has a chance of winning the AHL rookie goal-scoring title after scoring his 17th goal of the campaign Friday.
Nadeau also has 15 assists and 20 PIM through 37 appearances with AHL Chicago in 2024-25. The only rookies ahead of him in goals are Sam Colangelo (18) and Jani Nyman (18). The 19-year-old Nadeau was selected by Carolina with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Although he logged one game with Carolina last season, he hasn't played for the Hurricanes yet in 2024-25. However, he does have considerable offensive upside, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him play a meaningful role for Carolina in a couple of years.

Hurricanes' Mikko Rantanen: Slated to play for Team Finland
Rantanen (lower body) is on his way to Montreal and is expected to play for Team Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Sunday.
Rantanen missed Saturday's game against Utah, but his ailment was seemingly a minor one. His availability is crucial for a Finland squad that will be without star blueliner Miro Heiskanen (knee). The Finns will face Team USA on Thursday.

Hurricanes' Jack Roslovic: Strikes late in win
Roslovic scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.
Roslovic had the final goal of the game with 1:26 left in the third period. The 28-year-old forward has just three points over 18 games since the start of January, a performance that has earned him a spot firmly in the bottom six. For the season, he's at 19 goals, nine helpers, 100 shots on net and a minus-6 rating through 55 outings. The break for the 4 Nations Face-Off should give Roslovic a chance to rest and reset. He's likely to finish with the second 20-goal season of his career, and he could also get to the 40-point mark for the third time in four years.

Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook: Tallies on empty net in blowout win
Martinook scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.
Martinook ended a six-game goal drought, during which he had one assist. His tally was at 17:16 of the third period, though the Hurricanes were able to get one more goal after that. Martinook is now at 10 goals, 26 points, 83 shots on net, 67 hits, 37 blocked shots and a plus-15 rating over 56 appearances this season. It's a pace that could see him push for his first 40-point campaign, though he should be able to reach the 30-point mark for a third straight year even if his offense slips.

Hurricanes' Jackson Blake: Picks up two helpers in win
Blake collected two assists in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.
The 21-year-old rookie skated in the top six again and featured on the top power-play unit for an injury-depleted Carolina roster, notably missing Mikko Rantanen (lower body). Blake has taken advantage of his opportunities of late, producing a goal and six points over the last eight games, but the Hurricanes could be a lot healthier on the other side of the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, which might bump Blake into a lesser role.
