  • Penguins' Cody Glass: Offers assist in loss

Glass logged an assist, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers.

The helper was Glass's first point over six outings in February. The 25-year-old got a look on the second line as a winger, though he's often filled a bottom-six role this season. Glass is up to 14 points, 68 shots on net, 37 hits, 28 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating over 46 appearances, production right in line with what he had for the Predators in 2023-24, so he's not much of an option in most fantasy formats.

  • Penguins' Erik Karlsson: On a roll in February

Karlsson accounted for an even-strength assist, two blocked shots, one takeaway and a minus-3 rating in a team-high 27:54 of ice time Sunday in a 5-3 loss to the Rangers.

Karlsson helped out Ryan Shea's first goal of 2024-25 early in the final frame. Karlsson has yet to be held off the scoresheet through six games in February, having provided a goal and six helpers during that stretch. The right-shot blueliner's point streak is up to seven games overall. Karlsson is on pace to match the 56 points he produced over 82 regular-season games in 2023-24. The 34-year-old continues to lead Pittsburgh on the back end with six markers and 34 helpers through 59 outings.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Captain consistency

Crosby compiled an assist, five shots on goal, one blocked shot, one hit, one takeaway and a minus-2 rating in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers.

Crosby registered the primary helper on Ryan Shea's second goal of the game at 3:31 of the third period. Crosby's point streak is up to seven games -- he has five goals and four assists in that span. After bringing home more hardware at the 4 Nations Face-Off with Team Canada, Crosby is doing everything he can on offense to will his team to the postseason, but Pittsburgh's defense and goaltending situation has been less than ideal. The all-world center is spearheading the Penguins in scoring with 60 points (18 goals, 42 assists) through 57 outings in 2024-25. The closest Penguin to Crosby in terms of offensive production, Rickard Rakell, has 49 points in 58 games, which highlights just how much the former is being relied on at 37 years old.

  • Penguins' Ryan Shea: First career two-goal game

Shea found the back of the net on both of his shots and went plus-1 in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers.

Shea scored his first goal of the season less than a minute into the final frame to the tie game. He added another marker less than three minutes later to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead. Shea's 20:37 of ice time was a season high, but that can mostly be attributed to Matt Grzelcyk leaving the game with an upper-body injury. This was Shea's first appearance since Jan. 27 -- he's often been a healthy scratch this season, but Sunday's performance may have opened the door for more opportunities for the 28-year-old. Shea will be an unrestricted free agent come July, so he should have a lot to prove during the final stretch of the campaign.

  • Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: One of each in loss

Malkin potted a goal on his only shot and added an assist and a plus-1 rating in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers.

Malkin opened the scoring in the first period and set up Ryan Shea's first goal of the season early in the final frame. Malkin has a goal and two assists in back-to-back games since returning from a six-game absence due to a lower-body injury. The veteran center upped his season totals to 10 goals and 37 points over 49 appearances. The 38-year-old is currently centering Danton Heinen and Cody Glass on the second line in addition to receiving power-play time with the No. 2 unit.

  • Penguins' Joel Blomqvist: Outdueled on home ice

Blomqvist surrendered four goals on 15 shots in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers. The fifth marker was an empty-netter.

After allowing three goals in relief of Alex Nedeljkovic in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals, Blomqvist was unable to make a timely save for his team in Sunday's loss. The Penguins were outshooting the Rangers 31-9 after two periods, but Igor Shesterkin was stellar in the road crease. Blomqvist has struggled in his first NHL season -- he's conceded at least three goals in 11 of 13 appearances in 2024-25. Overall, the Finnish netminder owns a 3-9-0 record, .886 save percentage and 3.72 GAA.

  • Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Suffers injury Sunday

Grzelcyk (upper body) won't return to Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Grzelcyk sustained the injury on a Matt Rempe hit in the first period. Rempe received a two-minute penalty for interference on the play. Grzelcyk entered Sunday's action with one goal, 27 assists, 70 shots on net and 72 blocked shots across 58 appearances this season.

  • Penguins' Bokondji Imama: Still unavailable

Imama (upper body) won't play Sunday against the Rangers, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.

It'll be the third straight game Imama's missed due to the injury. The 28-year-old winger has appeared in six games with Pittsburgh this year, averaging 5:28 of ice time while failing to record a point.

  • Penguins' Joel Blomqvist: Defending crease Sunday

Blomqvist will protect the home net against the Rangers on Sunday, according to Michelle Crechiolo of the Penguins' official site.

Blomqvist allowed three goals on 17 shots in relief after Alex Nedeljkovic got the hook from Saturday's 8-3 loss to Washington. The 23-year-old Blomqvist has a 3-8-0 record with a 3.68 GAA and an .893 save percentage through 12 NHL appearances this season. The Rangers rank 14th in the league with 2.96 goals per game in 2024-25 and lost 8-2 to Buffalo on Saturday.

  • Penguins' Bryan Rust: Still sidelined

Rust (illness) won't play Sunday against the Rangers, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.

It'll be the second game Rust has missed while recovering from an illness. The 32-year-old forward has 20 goals and 42 points in 48 games this season. Anthony Beauvillier figures to remain on Pittsburgh's top line in Rust's absence.

  • Penguins' Rickard Rakell: Records assist Saturday

Rakell offered an assist, three shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals.

Rakell fell ill while with Team Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-Off, but the illness didn't cost him any NHL action. The 31-year-old is on a roll with two goals and five assists during a six-game point streak in league play. For the season, he's up to an impressive 49 points, 149 shots on net, 93 hits, 66 blocked shots and a minus-16 rating through 57 appearances. While Rakell has three more years left on his contract after 2024-25, he comes with an affordable $5 million cap hit and could be a trade target for many contenders over the next couple of weeks if the Penguins decide to part ways with him while his value is high.

  • Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Adds helper in return

Malkin notched an assist, two shots on goal and two PIM in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals.

Malkin missed six games due to a lower-body injury. He saw just 12:45 of ice time in his return, but that was likely due to the blowout score. The 38-year-old center has played in just nine of 19 games since the start of January, earning a mere four points in that span. He's at nine goals, 26 assists, 82 shots on net and a minus-20 rating through 48 contests overall, and with his health being shaky lately, Malkin is a risk for fantasy managers who don't have a good backup plan in place.

  • Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Scores in blowout loss

Crosby scored a goal on two shots and went minus-2 in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals.

Crosby played through an upper-body injury during Team Canada's victorious 4 Nations Face-Off bid, and there was some question if the Penguins would rest him Saturday, just two days after an emotionally charged tournament finale. He played anyway, logging 19:59 of ice time while winning eight of 15 faceoffs. Crosby largely played on the wing during the tournament, but the Penguins don't have the center depth to cover for him. The 37-year-old superstar is up to 18 goals, 59 points, 158 shots on net, 52 hits and a minus-17 rating over 56 appearances this season.

  • Penguins' Joel Blomqvist: Makes relief appearance

Blomqvist turned aside 14 of 17 shots in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals.

Blomqvist took the reins from Alex Nedeljkovic late in the second period after the Capitals poured on four goals in the middle frame. The 23-year-old Blomqvist may have started Sunday's matchup against the Rangers, but his relief appearance could change the coaching staff's plans.

  • Penguins' Alex Nedeljkovic: Chased from crease

Nedeljkovic allowed five goals on 14 shots in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals.

Nedeljkovic got the hook after surrendering two goals eight seconds apart late in the second period, giving the Capitals a 5-2 lead. The 29-year-old drops to 12-10-6 in 28 appearances this season. He will be a shaky fantasy option for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign behind a struggling team that will probably be sellers at the trade deadline.

  • Penguins' Kris Letang: Lights lamp Saturday

Letang recorded a power-play goal, a minus-2 rating and three shots during Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals.

Letang ended a 21-game goalless drought with his first-period marker, bringing him to eight tallies and 21 points in 51 appearances this season. The 37-year-old's days as an elite fantasy defender might be behind him, but Letang will continue to have fantasy relevance while feeding pucks to Sidney Crosby on Pittsburgh's top power-play unit.

  • Penguins' Kevin Hayes: Plucks apple Saturday

Hayes tallied an assist and added four shots during Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Capitals.

Hayes has helpers in consecutive outings and has managed two goals and five points over his last 10 games. Playing through multiple stints on the injured list, the 32-year-old center has managed just 15 points in 41 games and is no longer much of a fantasy asset given his diminished role offensively.
