Top Stars News

  • Stars' Oskar Back: Draws assist in Sunday's win

Back logged an assist and two PIM in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Back has a helper in two of his last three games. The Swedish forward continues to hold onto a fourth-line role for the Stars, and while that hasn't led to much offense, it shows the team trusts him to handle defensive duties. For the year, he's at 13 points, 30 shots on net and a plus-3 rating across 52 appearances.

  • Stars' Cody Ceci: Slides assist Sunday

Ceci notched an assist in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Ceci has two helpers over six games since he was dealt from the Sharks to the Stars. The 31-year-old has settled right into a top-four role, and while his ice time has dropped a bit with his new team, he's still playing key shutdown minutes. Overall, Ceci has 17 points, 66 shots on net, 107 blocked shots, 65 hits and a minus-9 rating through 60 outings this season.

  • Stars' Mavrik Bourque: Collects helper

Bourque produced an assist in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Bourque has gotten on the scoresheet in each of his last five games, earning two goals and three assists in that span. He helped out on a Jason Robertson tally at 8:48 of the second period in Sunday's contest to keep the streak going. Bourque has had a bit of a long adjustment period to the NHL, but it looks like he's found his footing lately. He's up to 18 points, 54 shots on net, 28 hits, 24 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating across 51 outings in 2024-25.

  • Stars' Wyatt Johnston: Contributes power-play helper

Johnston logged a power-play assist and three shots on goal in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Johnston has earned five points, including three on the power play and one shorthanded, over his last three games. The 21-year-old has thrived even when moving around the lineup this season as he continues to prove himself a key part of the Stars' future. He's now at 50 points (15 on the power play) with 154 shots on net and a plus-11 rating across 57 appearances this season.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Earns two power-play helpers

Duchene registered two power-play assists and two shots on goal in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Duchene has picked up right where he left off before the 4 Nations Face-Off -- this was his fourth multi-point effort in a row. He helped out on two of Jason Robertson's three goals in Sunday's win. Duchene has five goals and five assists during his current streak and is up to 23 goals, 36 helpers, 20 power-play points, 107 shots on net and a plus-12 rating over 57 appearances this season. He's finished above a point-per-game pace just once in his career in 2021-22 with the Predators, but he fits well in his role with the Stars and could maintain his current pace despite a lofty 21.5 shooting percentage.

  • Stars' Roope Hintz: Records two assists in win

Hintz logged two assists, including one on the power play, and three shots on goal in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Hintz has struggled in February -- this was his first multi-point effort over six games this month. He set up the first two goals of Jason Robertson's second-period hat trick. The 28-year-old Hintz is up to 38 points (nine on the power play), 119 shots on net and a plus-8 rating through 53 appearances this season. His offense isn't at the same level as it's been in previous years, but with Robertson picking up his own scoring pace, Hintz should follow down the stretch.

  • Stars' Sam Steel: Opens scoring in win

Steel scored a goal on four shots in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Steel tallied just 2:10 into the game as the Stars' fourth line made an early impact. The 27-year-old signed a two-year contract extension Feb. 14, so he's cemented himself as a key part of the forward depth in Dallas. He's also enjoying a pretty steady year with five goals, 18 points, 71 shots on net, 46 hits and a minus-2 rating through 55 appearances. Steel should get to the 20-point mark for the fifth time in his career, but he may struggle to challenge his personal best of 28 points from the 2022-23 campaign.

  • Stars' Jason Robertson: Hat trick in win

Robertson scored three goals, including two on the power play, in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

All three of Robertson's goals came over a span of 8:40 in the second period, with his third tally standing as the game-winner. The two power-play goals came on a major after Casey Cizikas was ejected from Sunday's game for a hit to the head of Lian Bichsel. Robertson has 13 goals and 20 points across his last 16 outings, and he's looking very comfortable in a top-line role after a slow start. For the season, he's at 23 goals, 54 points (15 on the power play), 156 shots on net and a plus-4 rating over 57 appearances. If he keeps up his recent pace, he'll have no trouble getting back to the 30-goal mark that he missed by one in the 2023-24 regular season.

  • Stars' Jake Oettinger: Wins over Islanders

Oettinger stopped 34 of 37 shots in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Islanders.

Oettinger put in a solid performance in this contest, doing just enough to help the Stars to the win. The 26-year-old netminder had lost his last three outings (two in the NHL, one for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off), so this should help his confidence as the Stars prepare for the stretch run. Overall, he's at a 27-12-2 record with a 2.37 GAA and a .912 save percentage over 41 starts this season. He's been one of the best goalies in the league, especially among those seeing heavy workloads -- his 2.37 GAA is fourth among all goalies with at least 35 appearances in 2024-25. The Stars' road trip concludes with a stop in Columbus on Tuesday.

  • Stars' Lian Bichsel: Injured on Long Island

Bichsel sustained an upper-body injury in Sunday's game against the Islanders and will not return.

Bichsel was on the receiving end of a hard hit in the second period from Casey Cizikas, who received a five-minute major penalty on the play. The Stars can ill-afford to lose Bichsel -- Miro Heiskanen (knee) is on the shelf, and they will be without Nils Lundkvist (shoulder) for the rest of the campaign. Brendan Smith will draw back into the lineup Tuesday in Columbus if Bichsel is unable to suit up.

  • Stars' Matt Dumba: Assist streak at three games

Dumba provided an assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Devils.

Dumba has logged a helper in three straight contests. Prior to this stretch, he had been limited to just two assists in his first 34 appearances of the campaign. He's now at five helpers, 29 shots on net, 51 hits, 38 blocked shots, 35 PIM and a minus-1 rating through 37 outings. Dumba won't be a massive producer on offense, but a strong showing over the next week or two could allow the Stars to address other needs at the trade deadline, even with Miro Heiskanen (knee) out for weeks and Nils Lundkvist (shoulder) done for the season.

  • Stars' Wyatt Johnston: On career pace

Johnston scored a goal and added an assist Saturday in a 4-2 victory over New Jersey.

Johnston's goal was a shortie into the empty net with nine seconds remaining in the contest. He has 17 goals, 32 assists and 151 shots in 56 games, and he's on pace for his first 70-plus point season. Johnston was the 23rd overall pick in 2021, and he has emerged as perhaps the most impactful player so far from that draft. His 155 career points (73 goals, 82 assists; 220 games) top all performers from that class. So do his goals.

  • Stars' Evgenii Dadonov: Nine points in last nine games

Dadonov scored a goal in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Devils.

Dadonov drove hard to the net early in the first and drilled in a rebound after a shot hit the post. It was his 16th goal of the season. Dadonov has picked up the pace over the last month, and he has nine points (four goals, five assists) and 15 shots in his last nine games.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Three-game, eight-point streak

Duchene scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-2 win over the Devils on Saturday.

Duchene pushed the score to 3-1 at the midpoint of the third period when he cut into the high slot, took a pass from Jamie Benn and wired a wrist shot through a screen and past Jake Allen. The goal stood as the winner. Duchene is on a three-game goal streak (five goals, three assists), and at 34, he's toying with his first point-per-game season since 2021-22 in Nashville. He has 23 goals and 34 assists for 57 points in 56 games this year.

  • Stars' Thomas Harley: Three-game goal streak

Harley nabbed a power-play goal Saturday in a 4-2 win over New Jersey.

Harley put the Stars up 2-0 with a wrist shot from the top of the left face-off circle at 5:44 of the first period. It was his 10th goal of the season, and it extended his goal streak to three games (three goals, one assist). Harley was a mid-tourney addition to Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off when the team was hit with both injuries and illness, and he acquitted himself well. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised if his soaring confidence results in an uptick in production back on NHL ice.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Steals game against Devils

DeSmith made 31 saves in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Devils.

The Devils were all over the Stars, but DeSmith kept the proverbial hounds at bay. After the game, coach Pete DeBoer was effusive in his praise: "I loved our goalie. He was our best player tonight, and we needed him to be." Since Dec. 1, DeSmith has been elite -- he's 8-2-0 with a .925 save percentage, a 2.25 GAA and one shutout. He makes for a great option in dailies whenever he's in the blue paint.
